Episode #113 – Heaven Is A Better Place Today, Mr. Howe

nhl_howe06_1440

Our title honouring Gordie Howe comes from The Tragically Hip’s song “Heaven Is A Better Place Today”, take a listen to it if you’ve never heard it before. The boys give their thoughts on Mr. Hockey and share a couple stories meeting Gordie.

Ryan, Dave and P Mac get together a day removed from the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2016 Stanley Cup victory. They look back at the series, their dominance over the San Jose Sharks and Sidney Crosby’s Conn Smythe trophy win.

They take a phone call from Ol Jimmy Rutherford, who’s still celebrating his Stanley Cup victory, discuss Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel winning the cup after two big trades from Canadian markets, and they discuss where Pittsburgh is headed in the off season.

They also talk about expansion into Las Vegas, when it could all go down and their less than stellar predictions for a fan base and general interest of the NHL in Vegas by locals and tourists.

Finally, they joke about the idea of moving a second team in the Vancouver market, what they would call it and how to make it a recipe for success.

A fun and loose podcast as the NHL season comes to an end while we gear up for the NHL draft and free agency.
